How Can I Worship God? (with video of “Jesus Messiah”)
To my shame — my heart often does not feel worshipful.
Which is why Psa 43:3-4 has been such an encouragement.
It’s a heart-felt cry for God to change my dull heart so I can worship — which I have been praying recently.
Here it is —
“Send out your light and your truth, let them lead me.”
The psalmist’s heart is dull — not feeling God’s glory, love, majesty, goodness.
But the good news is that we never need to stay in that condition.
We can join the psalmist and pray — asking God for more of the heart-enlightening and truth-revealing work of the Holy Spirit.
“Let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!”
When the Holy Spirit enlightens our hearts with the truth of God’s beauty — it’s like being brought to God’s holy hill and to His dwelling place.
That’s what the psalmist asks God to do for him — and what we can ask God to do for us.
“Then I will go to the altar of God — to God my exceeding joy.”
When the Holy Spirit enables the psalmist to feel God’s glory and mercy — he experiences God as his exceeding joy.
That’s deeply encouraging.
No matter how dull my heart feels — God can change my heart by the power of His Spirit so I feel God’s exceeding joy.
“And I will praise You with the lyre, O God, my God.”
The result?
We will praise Him.
Try this
Pray over Psa 43:3-4.
Ask God for more of the heart-enlightening and truth-revealing work of the Spirit.
Then use this worship song to set your heart on the truth of Jesus Christ — the Messiah.
As you praying for the Spirit’s work — and ponder the truth of Jesus Christ — God’s light and truth lead you to experience Jesus Christ as your exceeding joy.
Let me know what God does in your heart.
