Ask God To Show You His Glory (“Yahweh” Worship Video)
We are wired to find our highest joy in beholding greatness. That’s why people travel to Yosemite from around the world to see Half Dome and Vernal Falls and El Capitan — because seeing such greatness gives them such pleasure.
But the infinitely greatest greatness is God Himself. Which means that our infinitely highest joy is seeing and beholding God.
Which is why the main focus of heaven is seeing God —
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matt 5:8
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. 1Cor 13:12
They will see His face. Rev 22:4
Don’t Need To Wait
But we don’t need to wait until heaven.
Before we were saved Satan had blinded us to God’s glory (2Cor 4:3). But when God saved us, He freed us from Satan’s power and shined the light of His glory into our hearts (2Cor 4:6).
We saw the glory of His mercy, power, wisdom, love — and for the first time tasted all-satisfying joy.
But this does not just happen at conversion. Throughout our Christian lives God gives us times when we see and feel His glory (2Co 3:18).
And when we do we are filled, satisfied, encouraged, assured, and transformed.
So what can we do to experience this more?
Two Parts
What God gives us “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God” (2Cor 4:6). So there’s two parts.
There’s knowledge — the truth of God as revealed in His word.
And then there’s light — the work of the Spirit opening our eyes to the radiance of God’s glory in that knowledge.
So how can we experience this?
- open your Bible to a passage drenched with truth about God
- pray and ask God to show you His glory
- think and pray over that passage
As you do that God will give you times when you see and feel His glory, as described in Num 6:24-25; Psa 43:3-4; Psa 67:1; and 1Pet 1:8.
Try That With This Song
“Yahweh” is a worship song full of truth about God. It’s based on Moses’ prayer — “Show me your glory” (Exo 33:18).
So take some time to pray, ask God to show your His glory, and sing these words to God.
Let me know what He does in your heart —
