I know with no doubt that I need God.
But I just can’t seem to get close to Him.
For a while I think I had the idea I had to force myself to do what was right, rather than wanting to out of love for God.
Sometimes I think I’ll never be able to get close to Him.
What if He hasn’t chosen me?
I really seem to be struggling with repentance. It’s almost like I don’t want to repent.
What if I can’t ever repent? What if I can’t ever believe?
I don’t know what to pray or where to read in the Bible. My heart feels like a stone.
What should I do?

These are all great questions!
Can I suggest this...Buy a book by Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones called Joy Unspeakable. [He was born in 1899 and is regarded as one of the best preachers of the 20th Century).
He says this: we cannot believe and have faith in God (or even properly repent) until we are first baptised by the Holy Spirit.
It is a profound part of Christianity.
Just keep asking God for this baptism....[Seek and you will find...]. Once it comes (and He guarantees it will) it transform your life for the better.
I spent 30 years trying to force belief in God, perform good works etc. It just doest get you there. The Holy Spirit does, though. Best of Luck!
Oh and by the way - MLJones says there is only 1 real measure of faith in God: Joy.When you think about it - this must be true.
