Fight of Faith

That’s what Paul calls the Christian life in 1 Timothy 6:12 and in 2 Timothy 4:7.

Everything we need flows from faith in Christ, including –

The provision of the Spirit (Galatians 3:5)

  • Obedience (Hebrews 11:8)
  • Love for others (Galatians 5:6)
  • Peace (Isaiah 26:3)
  • Joy (Philippians 1:25)
  • Overcoming of the world (1 John 5:3-5)
  • Spiritual life (John 20:31)
  • Power to extinguish Satan’s flaming darts (Ephesians 6:16)

But this raises a question –

How Do I Fight This Fight?

Here are some blog posts that I hope will help answer this question, and encourage you in the fight —

There is a huge difference between half-heartedly resisting sin, and waging full-scale battle to destroy it.

Here’s what happened yesterday.

Willpower alone can’t produce obedience because obedience includes feelings, and we can’t change feelings by willpower.

But God has good news.

I have this idea planted in my mind that I cannot receive grace/don’t rejoice in it/am offended by it. Oh please beg The Lord to overcome this foolishness in my mind and heart and to help me receive Jesus.

  2. Paul Walton says:

    Kathryn,

The war all believers struggle with is overcoming sin, perhaps you have been taught that these thoughts (unbelief) would simply disappear once you begin to turn towards Christ. The truth is the real battle begins once we begin to trust Christ, the power of sin is broken by trusting in Christ, but our indwelling remaining sin begins to die each day as we choose to trust Christ. I wish I could tell you that the battle of faith was over now that you have began to trust Christ, but in all honesty it has just begun. That is why we need to read God’s word, study it, hang our life on it, & plead with God that we would trust it & not our carnal mind.

    Fight on sister,
    Paul
