Wake Up Your Sleeping Soul (“Awake My Soul” Worship Video)

Sleeping on everystockphoto by procsilasIs Your Soul Asleep?

It happens.  We can be wide awake physically.  But our souls can feel like they are sound asleep.

It’s frustrating.  Because we remember times when our souls were awake with love for Christ and zeal for His glory.

But now our souls are asleep — feeling nothing.

What Can We Do?

Here’s what God says to us through Paul —

“Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Eph 4:15)

Note the promise –“and Christ will shine upon you.”  That’s what sleeping hearts need: a fresh work of God’s Spirit shining Jesus’ glory into our hearts (2Cor 3:18).

And God promises to do this, as we awake and rise from the dead.

What Does That Mean?

What would it mean for sleeping people to awake and rise from the dead?

It means we don’t settle for sleepiness.  We turn our hearts to God through Jesus and cry to Him for help.

We set our hearts upon His Word, and fight to trust promises like —

“I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” (Isa 57:15)

“Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hos 6:3)

And we pray Scriptures like —

Send out your light and your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to … God my exceeding joy.” (Psa 43:3-4)

“My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!” (Psa 119:25)

“I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word!” (Psa 119:107)

What God Will Do

He will answer.  He has promised.

He will revive your spirit.  He will come to you like rain upon a dry land.

Christ will shine the light of His glory upon you.

So — awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead!

Here’s a worship song to help.  And don’t miss LeCrae at the 2:15 mark, and then again at the end.
